We’ve got a cracking new addition to the Wandering Wives Lust List. The quirky 25 hours hotel in Hafencity, Hamburg is a nautical wonderland, waiting to be explored. After a long weekend of partying at L Beach, we spent our much needed 25 hours recovering in the stylish portside hipster hotel.
The problem with hipster hotels is they can often struggle to avoid the well-trodden path of peculiarity. This place, however, manages to include the perfect balance of ambience, style and the often lacking functionality, needed in a hotel. Quite simply the 25 hours hotel at Hafencity is a sublimely cool place to hang out.
The guys at 25 hours hotels take their surroundings pretty seriously, their trendy hotels draw inspiration from local people, neighbourhoods and lifestyles. Naturally, 25 hours Hafencity is a sailor themed hotel, which captures the rich seafaring essence of Hamburg and its folk. Salty sea dogs and nautical niceties are all par for the course and the hotel provides the perfect port in any storm to seafaring travellers and land lubbers alike.
Each cabin comes complete with a log book telling the stories of real life sailors and their voyages. Their tales of love, life and ocean spirit make for a thrilling read and guests are encourage to leave their own tales of adventure in their logbook entry. Our cabin was decorated with a rope ladder, sailor’s chest and nautical themed wallpaper, which may sound odd but actually looked great. We loved the wallpaper so much we even discussed how we could use something similar in our house. The huge comfy bed enticed us with its crisp cotton sheets and cosy blankets, we anchored ourselves to it on arrival and as we drifted into slumber we could almost hear the ocean waves lapping. After a well needed rest we were pleased the hotel had strayed off theme to provide a spacious shower room in our cabin. We loved the little touches that made our stay so welcoming. The hotel provide a hot water bottle, cuddly toy, shopping bag and portable speakers for use during the duration of your stay. Without a doubt, the multiple choice Do Not Disturb sign was our favourite!
On the first floor there is a recreation area with large comfortable seating spaces and a tea bar. There are also Macs available to use, a football table and an old games console to keep any old school retro boredom at bay. The Vinyl Room (told you it was hipster) is a smoking lounge where you can spin your favourite sea shanties and relax with amongst the mermaids. As well as generous seating, beautiful lighting and a throng of interesting people the hotel foyer houses a restaurant and super cute kiosk perfect for browsing. Quirky charms, portside produce and stylish homewares are all available to purchase for guests who want to take some of that Hamburg sea air home with them.
The 25 hours hotel Hafencity is a perfect base from which to explore Hamburg. We loved our stay and would highly recommend it. The 25 hours guys also have hotels in Berlin, Zurich, Vienna and Frankfurt, so make sure you check them out when planning your next city break.
